PSEG Former Paterson Gas Plant
Location:
Paterson, New Jersey
Owner:
PSEG / MGP
Year Completed:
2020
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) identified the former Paterson Gas Plant as a contaminated site, which resulted in PSEG conducting sediment remediation activities. Ferreira was contracted to replace a 20-inch gas main running under the Passaic River which connects to the adjacent former gas plant. Major work items include mechanical dredging, sediment removal, subcutaneous capping, and riverbank restoration. Additionally, Ferreira created a process to purify contaminated dredged water prior to releasing it back into the adjacent water treatment facility. All work was performed to the standard of the NJDEP while not disturbing the migratory birds and freshwater fish.
