New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) stated that the current transformer that serves the Town and Village of Stillwater needed to be upgraded. The current transformer no longer meets the local energy demands, especially during peak times. NYSEG proposed a new battery energy storage system facility that will interconnect to a 4.8kV distribution facility.

The new facility will include a battery energy storage system for lithium-ion batteries, inverters, HVAC, fire suppression systems, and related equipment. Ferreira is the prime contractor and is performing all EPC work including engineering and design, site development, below/above-grade construction, testing, and commissioning. The project is ongoing and is set to be completed in 2023.
