The Battleship USS Iowa, also known as “Battleships of Presidents”, was built by Brooklyn Navy Yard in June of 1940 located in Brooklyn, New York. She weighed in at 45,000 tons and was the first in her class. USS Iowa was launched into service in August of 1942 during World War II. After 19 years of service and multiple deployments in the Cold War and Korean War, the US Navy decommissioned the ship in October 1990. In 2011, the US Navy donated the USS Iowa to the Los Angeles–based non-profit Pacific Battleship Center. She was then moved to Berth 87 at the Port of Los Angeles in 2012, and is now one of top five museums in Los Angeles with a mission to celebrate the American spirit through the preservation and interpretation of the Battleship IOWA, to educate the public on the accomplishments and sacrifices of American patriots, and to engage guests in unique and exciting ways that bring the ship to life by connecting the past with the present and the future. In 2019, Ferreira was asked by the partnership of the museum and the GCA of CA to donate labor forces and equipment to install water and permanent power to the ship to increase the learning experience by allowing the educational programs to include overnight STEM camps aboard the ship. In staying true to our core value of giving back to the community, Ferreira was a willing partner. In 2019, museum coordinators announced that the USS Iowa Museum received a $19 million dollar donation for renovation and relocated the ship to the San Pedro Public Market. The total renovation is due to be completed in 2030.
